Grab a spoon, "Chick's Beach" is completed!

My entry for the most recent Bead Soup is completed at last, and I am very pleased with the results.  It took a few days to come up with the inspiration for the set.  As you well know by now,  I am a "beach girl" through and through.  I named this set for Chick's Beach in Virginia Beach, the home of Duck Inn for many years.  I do so miss their She-Crab Soup.

Details of the three pieces: Bracelet, necklace, and earrings.

A big "Thank You" goes to Sandi Volpe who sent me some wonderful beads, hand-made clasps, and the wire that I used to construct it.  She was very generous and sent along a set in silver as well as the gold that I used here.  I'll be making something soon and posting the results!

Detail of the front of the necklace.
So, moving clockwise around the necklace here are some details about the beads that went into it:

  • First is a painted wooden bead with Czech glass beads used as spacers
  • Next is an enameled bead from Sandi, framed with faceted jasper and agate beads with small Swarovski crystal beads as spacers
  • An almond ceramic Elaine Ray bead with small Swarovski crystals
  • A Czech glass nautilus-shaped bead with Czech glass window-cut beads on each side
  • Another brown enameled bead from Sandi matched with small sand-opal Swarovski crystals
  • A round turquoise bead that I wire-wrapped (first time!)
  • (there's a few more that didn't fit into the photo, so more on them below)
  • A glass rondel surrounded by peridot Swarovski crystals
  • Another round turquoise bead that I wire-wrapped (second time!)
  • A Kazuri bead with two mint-alabaster AB Swarovski beads
  • Another Kazuri bead bordered by two Czech glass beads
  • A lovely light-blue enameled bead clasped between two turquoise and bronze cathedral beads, all from Sandi
  • And a cinnabar bead set between Swarovski silk rondels.
    The back of the necklace
Sandi sent the hand-made clasp that I wrapped with turquoise craft wire after adding a small glass bead at the end.  I'm pretty sure it's a Czech glass bead, as I have rather a lot of them and love them a lot!

The focal of the necklace -- lots of nifty details!
The focal of the necklace evolved over the course of the week -- a complex segment with lots of components.  Going clockwise:
  • A Shiva shell bead with green and white glass beads
  • A pair of matched turquoise Heishi beads
  • A sea-green glass melon bead atop a shell bead, both from Sandi, with an oval Czech glass bead and a hand-made wire spiral underneath
  • Three pendants -- two pearl and one Czech glass bead -- and a ceramic focal from Sandi.
  • I strung a fine gold chain through a hole in the pendant and attached two beach glass beads to either end, allowing the chain to move freely through the focal
  • Finally, on the upper left is an oval Czech bead with two small glass faceted beads on each side.
I also created a small bracelet.  From left to right: A sea-glass charm, a gemstone-faceted agate, a Czech "bottle-cap", a Czech nautilus charm, a filigree enamel bead, a Czech shell charm, a blue wooden bead, a Czech "bottle-cap" charm, a brown wooden bead, a heart-shaped ocean jasper pendant, and a turquoise Heishi bead.

Lots going on with the bracelet

And there's more!  A set of earrings to round out the set.  They're made with peridot Swarovski crystals, glass and sea-glass beads.

Fab! Earrings!

Peace, Love, and Sunshine,

Kel

Looks like you had a great set of ingredients with which to work!

I love the challenge of Bead Soup - working with someone else's stash.

I love your pieces, The colors are so pretty and I like how you used the gold wire. It is interesting that I like gold wire in others´ jewelry but I never thought of using it myself. I feel I can't use it as tastefully as you for example :)

Sandi sent some neat beads and you rocked them all! The shiva shell necklace reminds me of a jellyfish and I love that. I hope you enjoy wearing these on your trips to the beach!

Looking forward to seeing you again soon!
